Quebec independent investigations office, BEI, has been assigned to investigate the incident, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m.
According to the BEI, Sgt. Maureen Breau was one of two officers arresting a man suspected of uttering threats. During the arrest, the suspect pulled a knife and fatally stabbed Breau, the BEI said.
One of two other officers who had been called in as backup opened fire on the suspect, striking him at least once.
The BEI, which is called in to investigate any police operation in Quebec involving death or injury, has assigned five investigators to the case. Louiseville is about 100 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
