The overpass has been closed since a section of the span above Cardinal Ave. was damaged during a fatal car accident last December.

The city of Pointe-Claire said that repair work on the winding overpass is planned from June 27 to 30, “with a view to reopening to the public in early July.”

The overpass allows pedestrians and cyclists to traverse Highway 20. There are entrances to the pedestrian overpass on both Cardinal Ave. and de l’Église Ave. in Pointe-Claire

Since the overpass closed in December, pedestrians and cyclists have been asked to use the underground tunnel at the Valois train station, located about 750 metres west of the overpass.

The city said the  repair work is subject to change due to weather conditions.

The overpass repairs took longer than expected because it took several months to get a technical report from external experts on the damages to the railings, lighting and surface of the pedestrian overpass, the city stated.

Finding a contractor also proved challenging during the pandemic. “The health crisis caused delays in all sectors of the economy, obtaining materials was a challenge for the vast majority of them,” the city said.

The violent car crash that took place in December claimed life of 16-year-old Noah-Leewis Mercier.

Another vehicle crashed near that location on Nov. 30., 2021. In that accident, the driver survived the crash, suffering only minor injuries.
