PWHL Toronto is going to play in yet one more non-PWHL arena this season.
The league announced Monday that the Feb. 27th game in Minnesota will be played at the University of Minnesota’s 10,000-seat 3M Arena at Mariucci rather than the Xcel Energy Centre the PWHL Minnesota normally calls home.
That rink is home to the Golden Gophers and is widely considered one of the most iconic arenas in NCAA hockey.
It was previously announced that Toronto would move its Feb. 16 game against Montreal to Scotiabank Arena (already sold out) and the March 17 game scheduled for Montreal that will now be played at Pittsburgh’s PPG Paints Arena (home to the NHL’s Penguins).
Minnesota boasts seven former Gophers on its roster including young stars Taylor Heise and Grace Zumwinkle who only recently graduated.
Toronto defender Olivia Knowles is also an alumnus of the University of Minnesota.
