A 23-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a 36-year-old man was killed in Pleasant Hill Saturday afternoon.
In a media release, Saskatoon police said patrol officers responded to a report of an “injured person” in a business’ parking lot in the 1600 block of 20th Street West.
Arriving officers found the 36-year-old man, who police said had “succumbed to a serious injury.” Police at the scene obtained a description of a suspect, according to the release.
A man was found nearby a short time later and was taken into custody without further incident, police said.
A 23-year-old man from Saskatoon has been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of breach of probation and one count of breach of undertaking. He is expected to appear before a Justice of the Peace on Sunday.
Traffic restrictions were in place in the area of 20th Street West and Avenue P South for several hours before they were lifted later Saturday evening.
This is the 10th homicide recorded in Saskatoon in 2023.
Homicide victims this year include Angose Standingwater, 30, who was killed on May 20; 44-year-old Jessica Caron, who was killed on Feb. 1; 35-year-old Steffen Pohl, who was killed on Jan. 30.; Tanice Roberts-Knorr, 63, who was killed on July 20; Damien Sanderson, 35, who was killed on June 14; Theresa Taysup, 35, who was killed on June 10; David Dustyhorn, 33, who was killed on May 29; Steffen Pohl, 35, who was killed on Jan. 30; and 38-year-old Ryan Taysup of Saskatoon, who was killed on Oct. 7.
Police continue to investigate.
