Letter to the editor: Trudeau’s speech to Liberals just empty words

EMPTY WORDS

I managed to watch Prime Minister Justin Trudeau talking at the Liberal convention, even though it was so nauseating. He speaks of democracy, respect and dignity for all Canadians (unless, of course, you should legitimately criticize him).

He does not practise any of what he preaches. His words are nothing but empty rhetoric. His audience are like trained seals, clapping and cheering on his BS. I doubt if they ever challenge anything he ever says. Jean Chrétien was no better.

The whole thing was extremely cringeworthy.

(To be fair, the speeches at most political conventions are equally bad.)

SCHOOL CHANGE

Re: Police blotters; Ottawa the latest school board to smear all cops as enemies, Brian Lilley column, May 5

I don’t understand how or why the boards of education seem to have more power than Premier Doug Ford and Education Minister Stephen Lecce. Who controls who and what?

I would suggest we get rid of the boards of education and put the dollars saved into more policing. Also, it is more evident than ever that we need to go to the voucher system and highlight schools with strengths in literacy, math and sciences and no emphasis on political indoctrination.

Those who wish to see their children go to a potentially unsafe school — where they won’t be frightened — can choose to do so.

(School boards across the province seem out of control and out of touch.)

WEASEL AND A SNAKE?

Good people fought for freedom under God, for King and country. Many gave their lives because these things meant something and they cared for others. That’s what made us a great nation. So, fast forward to the new generation, who, on a daily basis, prove they only care about themselves.

By the time the government and special-interest groups remove everything that offends someone, there is not going to be much of anything left, and the sad thing about the bottom line is that the little that is left is still going to offend someone.

Maybe our new coat of arms should include a weasel and a snake.

(Certainly an animal without a backbone would be appropriate.)
