Kidnapping, attempted murder charges for ex-boyfriend of woman allegedly abducted from Wasaga Beach home

The ex-boyfriend of a woman allegedly abducted from a Wasaga Beach home in January has been charged with kidnapping.

Mohamad Lilo, 35, had previously been charged with criminal harassment for allegedly contacting Elnaz Hajtamiri after the pair broke up in October 2021.

Hajtamiri, a 37-year-old woman from Richmond Hill, went missing from the Wasaga Beach home of a relative on Jan. 12, after she had moved there temporarily following an alleged attack outside her home the previous month.

Hajtamiri was reportedly taken from the home by three men dressed in police gear, but not uniforms, who claimed they had an arrest warrant for the woman.

On July 12, Lilo — who was scheduled to make a court appearance that day on the criminal harassment charges — was charged by the OPP with kidnapping, along with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, in connection to an incident in December that saw Hajtamiri allegedly attacked by two men, including one who was wielding a frying pan.

Two individuals had previously been charged in relation to that incident, including one who remains at large.

Hajtamiri has yet to be located, and the OPP has taken the step of reaching out to the Farsi- and Arabic-speaking communities in Toronto and Montreal in an effort to find leads.

Lilo will make a court appearance in Barrie on July 13.
