A verdict has been reached in Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The seven-person civil jury ruled in favour of Depp in a unanimous decision in both verdicts.

After deliberating for about 12 hours over three days, the verdicts were read inside the Virginia court on Wednesday afternoon.

Depp was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages in his defamation suit. The jury also awarded Heard $2 million in compensatory damages. The jury also ruled in favor of Heard, who said she was defamed by Depp’s lawyer when he called her abuse allegations a hoax.

Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million, accusing her of libeling him with a 2018 op-ed she wrote in which she described herself as “a public figure representing domestic abuse.” Heard filed a $100 million counterclaim against the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star after his lawyer called her allegations a hoax. Each accuses the other of destroying their career.

Heard was in court for the reading of the verdict, but Depp hasn’t been waiting in Virginia for the decision. He’s spent the last few days on stage, singing and playing guitar with Jeff Beck in the United Kingdom.

Heard responded to the verdict with a prepared statement on Twitter.

Depp also responded to the verdict with an official statement on Instagram.
