CRIME SCENE: Man charged in violent carjacking

A 33-year-old man faces several charges after a violent springtime carjacking involving the use of a hammer.

Toronto Police were called on March 2 to a carjacking robbery in the Royalcrest Rd.-Martin Grove Rd. area where it’s alleged the victim was driving their vehicle when they stopped in a parking lot and a woman got into the front seat for a pre-arranged meeting — at which time a man jumped into the rear of that vehicle, produced a hammer and began to strike the victim.

Cops say the victim was able to get out of the vehicle and the man drove away from the scene.

Members of the Hold Up Squad opened an investigation and on Wednesday Andy Hakh, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with robbery with offensive weapon, assault with weapon, and possession property obtained by crime.

MAN NABBED IN B&E SPREE

A 47-year-old man faces nine charges in connection with a string of retail store robberies between March and May.

Toronto Police responded to four retail store heists in the Don Mills, Wexford-Maryvale and Ledbury Park neighbourhoods between March 14 and May 3.

Cops say in each incident a man entered a store and approached the checkout counter before pulling out a handgun and demanding cash. In three incidents, police say the man stole a quantity of cash before fleeing the scene. The man fled empty-handed in one incident.

On Wednesday, May 4, police say a man gained entry into a closed Don Mills-area store by smashing the front glass door with a hammer and then used the hammer to break open a safe. He took cash and fled in a black SUV, police say.

On Wednesday, the Hold Up Squad, along with 33 Division and 53 Division Major Crime Units, executed two search warrants during which time the man was taken into custody.

Clothing worn by the suspect was recovered during the search warrants, police say.

Spryos Theodorakopoulos, of Toronto, was arrested on four counts of robbery with firearm, four counts of disguise with intent, and break and enter commit.

WOMAN ARRESTED IN CARJACKING

A 34-year-old woman was arrested following a violent carjacking earlier this week.

Toronto Police on Monday were called to the Weston Rd.-Lawrence Ave. W. area where it’s alleged a woman was in a parked vehicle with a man in a parking lot, at which time police say the woman began to physically assault the man with a weapon.

Cops say the man was forced to exit the vehicle and he jumped onto the front hood of the vehicle and fell to the ground as the woman drove away.

On Wednesday, the woman attended 12 Division was was taken into custody. Segal Suleiman, of Toronto, is charged with robbery with violence, and assault with a weapon.
