Canadians report Twitter outage on Thursday morning

Some Canadians had trouble logging into Twitter Thursday morning as the platform experienced service interruptions.

Users trying to log in were greeted with a splash page and the message, “This page is down.”

Ookla’s DownDetector showed a spike just before 8 a.m. of reports from users unable to use Twitter.

By 8:15 a.m., DownDetector’s site received a sudden surge of more than 54,000 complaints, with 61 per cent reporting issues with Twitter’s app and about 30 per cent having issues with the social media company’s website.

Just before 9 a.m., some Twitter users reported being able to access the platform again.

DownDetector's map of reports from Canadians unable to access Twitter.

A map shows service interruptions across Ontario, Quebec and Maritime provinces, with DownDetector also logging Twitter issues in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and and San Francisco.

The interruption comes as Twitter is in the process of suing Elon Musk for backing out of his deal to acquire the platform.

More to come.
