Boston Symphony Orchestra to embark on 4-metropolis tour of Japan


BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Symphony Orchestra is embarking on a 4-metropolis tour of Japan next thirty day period, for its initially overseas engagements considering the fact that before the coronavirus pandemic pressured the cancellation of cultural activities all over the earth.

The orchestra is scheduled to carry out at Yokohama’s Minato Mirai Corridor on Nov. 9 Kyoto’s Concert Hall on Nov. 10 Osaka’s Pageant Hall on Nov. 11 and Tokyo’s Suntory Corridor on Nov. 13, 14 and 15.

“The previous few years have taught us to be particularly grateful for the gifts of our life,&#8221 Boston Symphony Orchetra audio director Andris Nelsons stated in a statement Wednesday. “This is how we feel about returning to Japan, wherever we will passionately share our music although expressing our deep appreciation for the individuals and culture of this great region.”

The tour repertoire will consist of Mahler’s Symphony No. 6 Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 Strauss’ “Alpine Symphony&#8221 and Caroline Shaw’s “Punctum.&#8221

The orchestra will be joined by Mitsuko Ushida on piano in Osaka and Tokyo.

The stops in Yokohama and Kyoto are the orchestra&#8217s 1st visits to people cities because the late 1980s.

The vacation to Japan is the BSO&#8217s 29th global tour in the orchestra history.

The orchestra&#8217s previous overseas tour was an eight-town European journey in September 2018.

Excursions to Asia (Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and Hong Kong) scheduled for February 2020 and to Europe (Vienna, Leipzig, Hamburg and Paris) scheduled for May possibly 2022 ended up canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
