Belarus opposition hopeful at Russian setbacks in Ukraine

WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Belarus’ opposition leader reported Wednesday that she thinks Russian army setbacks in Ukraine could shake the hold on electric power of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

“We have a distracted Russia that is about to lose this war. It will not be ready to prop Lukashenko up with money and navy support as in 2020,” said Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, talking at a protection convention in Warsaw.

Tsikhanouskaya fled to Lithuania after Russian ally Alexander Lukashenko claimed victory in disputed August 2020 elections that have been considered in the West as fraudulent, and which a lot of considered she received.

She explained that hundreds of Belarusian volunteers have supported Ukrainians in their latest liberation of Ukrainian territory.

“As I talk, a Belarusian battalion is portion of Ukraine’s counter-offensive chasing the invaders absent. We all understand that the speed of modifications at the Ukrainian front opens new options for Belarus. And it’s relocating so fast,” she claimed at the Warsaw Security Forum.
