Area athletes set three new records at the OFSAA West Regional track and field meet, which wrapped up two days of competition on Saturday in Cambridge.

The Sandwich Sabres’ team of Lauren Dicaro, Ella Steel-Douglas, Jaela Bailey and Savannah Baillargeon set a new record in the junior girls’ 4×100-metre relay.

The foursome finished in a time of 49.43 seconds, which broke the old mark of 49.53 set in 2015 by the Herman Green Griffins’ team of Jada Jackson, Sherye Guimond, Adie Traore and Tanay Freckleton.

St. Joseph’s Anthony Cigan broke his own mark in the boys’ intellectually impaired 800 metres. He finished in a time of two minutes and 21.71 seconds, which broke the West Regional mark of 2:27.99 that he set a year ago.

Westview Freedom Academy’s Avery Lati also set a new mark in the girl’s intellectually impaired 800 metres. She finished in a time of 3:29.59 to beat the old mark of 3:42.23 set in 2017 by Grand River’s Kate Holden.

Ravens stay perfect

Keyanni Elliott and Matteo Trifon each scored touchdowns to help the Essex Ravens remain perfect in Ontario Summer Football League Under-18 division play on Saturday with a 23-11 win over the Cambridge Lions at Alumni Field.

Trifon also added two field goals, two converts and a single for the defending championship Ravens (3-0) while the Lions (2-1)also  conceded a safety.

Essex’s Under-16 team fell 14-8 to Cambridge while the Under-14 scored a 47-6 win against the Lions.

Holmes powers Clippers

Grady Holmes had four goals and added an assist to lead the Windsor Clippers to a 10-6 win over the Hamilton Bengals at Forest Glade Arena.

Connor McManus added three goals and an assist for the Clippers (10-5-0), who rebounded from an 8-4 road loss to the Six Nations Rebels (14-0-0) on Friday. Max Frataroli, Mitch Crosato and Thomas Irwin added single goals for Windsor against the Bengals (9-7-0), who were outshot 50-42.

League1 Ontario

Windsor City FC drew 1-1 with Brampton ProStars FC in League1 Ontario men’s premier division soccer play on Sunday while Tecumseh SC fell 3-2 on the road Saturday to the Simcoe County Rovers in women’s premier division play.

Gianfranco Facchineri scored in the 43rd minute to put Windsor City FC (2-4-1) up, but ProStars FC (5-2-1) scored the equalizer five minutes into the second half.

Kailyn Robertson put Tecumseh SC (3-3-2) up 1-0 just seven minutes into the game, but Simcoe County (4-3-0)  scored three times in a span of 16 minutes to take a two-goal lead at the half.

Ava Mills pulled Tecumseh scored in the 66th minute to pull Tecumseh SC within a goal, but that would be the only scoring in the second half.
