The incident happened on the morning of June 2, around 10:25 a.m., in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 just east of Provincial Road in the jurisdiction of Tecumseh.

OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint and located a suspect vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway.

A large police response followed as tactical officers of the Essex County OPP Emergency Response Team and an OPP police dog searched the area for the driver — who had fled on foot.

The section of westbound Highway 401 was temporarily reduced to one lane for about three hours. Patrolling Windsor police officers and more tactical officers with the WPS Emergency Services Unit joined the hunt.

OPP said their police dog Maximus tracked the suspect to a building in the 4000 block of Provincial Road (County Road 46) in Tecumseh.
